FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about low voltage cabling, our services, and support.
General
- What is low voltage cabling?
Low voltage cabling refers to wiring and systems that operate at 50 volts AC or less. This includes network cabling (CAT5/6/fiber), phone wiring, coax, security cameras, access control, and fire alarm wiring.
- Do you offer free estimates?
Yes — all commercial projects receive a free on-site assessment. This helps us plan the most efficient layout and give you an accurate quote.
- How long does installation take?
Project duration depends on scope. A small office might be completed in a day; a large commercial buildout could take several weeks. We'll provide a timeline estimate during the assessment.
- Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Our Cable Guy is fully licensed and insured for all low voltage work in Michigan and the other states we serve.
Network Cabling
- What cable types do you install?
We install CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, coax, and fiber optic (OM1–OM4 multimode and single-mode). We recommend CAT6 for most new installations.
- What's the difference between CAT6 and CAT6A?
CAT6 supports 10 Gbps up to 55 meters; CAT6A supports 10 Gbps up to 100 meters. For most offices, CAT6 is sufficient. For data centers and high-performance runs, CAT6A is recommended.
- Do you install fiber optic?
Yes. We handle both single-mode and multi-mode fiber, including fusion splicing and testing.
